Remember that feeling when Cinderella got transformed into a magical princess for the ball? Or the day you put on your wedding dress? I've always felt that way when I put on an evening dress, a little like my wedding day and Cinderella all at once. It doesn't matter if I wear a short, long, chiffon, organza dress, I still feel like a princess in it. Now there are, of course, designers that make more flattering dresses for those of us size 16, and I think those designers are the ones that design for a woman's taste in clothes and not her size. A flattering size 16 evening dress should be exactly the same as a size 4 evening dress, except for a little more material.

Speaking of material, there is a plethora of materials for evening dresses. While day dresses have cotton and rayon, evening dresses have satin, lace, velvet, silk, taffeta, and organza. Such beautiful fabrics that feel soft and feminine against the skin. Every fabric is meant to emphasize the feeling of being sexy and distinctly female.

For styles and cuts of evening dresses, there are many trendy and some classics which can work with every function. While it's my belief that women have nothing to hide, many of us (including myself) have self-perceived flaws and we are determined to hide them. There are ways to camouflage features that we are self conscious about.

Conscious of your behind or hips? An A-line skirt, empire cut or circle skirt will flatter the lower body nicely. Sequins, and other embellishments are fine, but avoid ruffles, pleats and tiered skirts.

Larger busted women can either flaunt it (I would), or wear a v-neck. It might be temping to wear big baggy tops, but this only creates the illusion of heaviness, instead wear close fitting (not tight) bodices. Wear short, long or off the shoulder sleeves with embroidery and embellishments that will draw the eye away fro the bust area. Jewelry is a great way to draw attention away from the bust line.

Don't be afraid to emphasize any parts you feel confident with. If that means you love your big breasts, then flaunt them. Got that J Lo booty? Work it in a pencil skirt. Confidence can carry any dress. Whether you wear evening dresses size 16 or size 4, you will look beautiful if you feel beautiful.

Summer Dresses Size 16

About a week ago I found myself shopping for a new sundress and I spend about 6 hours looking for any summer dresses size 16 at different department stores. I was actually really surprised to find it very difficult. I found plenty of size 14, 12 and lower, and actually it was even easier to find size 20 and over, but finding size 16 proved to be very frustrating. I ended up online at Amazon.com and Ebay. There, of course, I found hundreds of styles. The more I browsed, the more I found. But I couldn't find a comprehensive site with just size 16 dresses. So that got me thinking, and thinking had me designing and then suddenly I'm building this web site.

Once I started looking for size 16 maxi dresses, my thoughts wandered to wedding dresses and evening dresses, and in general just dresses size 16. So now you have an idea about why this site, and my other size specific sites, was built (of course I explain it a little bit on the homepage too).

Online is a smorgasbord of dresses and designs. The best part is that, unlike department stores, year round you can find summer, winter, spring and fall dresses and other ladies clothes. That's important because, while it is summer, I want some summer dresses for my vacation. What if I was going to Bermuda and it was December? The problem used to be that you could find a few and far between shops that had vacation dresses, but then you had to pay premium prices. Enter the Internet, where what you want, you get. And at very competitive prices.

Department stores have some great bargains online, and some really pretty designer dresses, summer dresses and maxi dresses size 16. There are some really exclusive and beautiful dresses at department stores, but if you just want some basic dresses for wearing, you'll find better deals at Amazon. To be honest you'll find better deals on designer dresses on eBay. So why even look for dresses at department stores? Well for one thing, they'll have the latest styles from designers. One thing you can count on at department stores is that if you want the latest styles, you'll find them at retail shops. Discount shops usually carry previous, or seasonal clothes.

So where did I find my maxi dresses size 16 for my vacation? I found them at a few places. Mostly Amazon.com and eBay, but also Target and a really great place called Avenue.

I shop at Avenue.com a lot, and I find their prices phenomenal, but they're mainly a plus size store and size 16 isn't (as I've mentioned before) technically a plus size.

Ebay has a lot to offer in terms of selection. Just watch the shipping and handling charges.

Planning that fantasy wedding? Finding the dress is half the fun. When I started shopping for my wedding dress, I was dreading it. I thought I wouldn't find anything plus sized that fit. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Dresses size 16, 18, 20 and up are one of the hottest sellers recently at the bridal shops. There are some beautiful choices for dresses. Even Vera Wang has wedding dresses size 16 and above. The trick is that some of the designers have different standards of measurements for their designs.

So Vera is the pinnacle of wedding dresses, but there are some equally beautiful dresses that won't cost a Smart Car to buy =).

Prom Dresses Size 16

My friend and her daughter, Jenny, just recently went shopping for prom dresses size 16. Being a teenager, Jenny is extremely insecure about her size. It's such a shame because she's quite beautiful and her figure is lovely. Yes, she is a little curvy, but so what. Jennifer Lopez is curvy. The chick from Grey's Anatomy is curvy. Curvy is in. Stick figures are out. And Jenny is not only lovely in figure and form, she's lovely in personality. She's so lovely that it is very hard to even notice her size, until she points it out. She's popular and got invited to the prom by a senior football player, even though she is a sophomore. But for some reason, while they were shopping Jenny was gravitating towards long baggy dresses without any shape or style.

I'm assuming it was to hide her perceived afflictions, but from where I was sitting (next to the dressing room), she looked like a one of those Barbie cake figures. You remember those right? In the 80s you got this Barbie doll torso and head and baked a cake around it in an upside down bowl, so it looked like a dress skirt. That may sound pretty, but instead of starting at the waist, most of what she tried on had the bowl skirt that started at the neck. OK I'm exaggerating a little, but still such unflattering dresses don't hide flaws, they create more. Prom dresses size 16 can look as good (if not better) thank size 0.

My point is that size 16 means a lot of things, but it doesn't mean you need to hide your light under a bushel, as my mamma used to say. Choose flattering dresses that fit well and don't worry about flaws that may or may not be there. Easier said than done, right? But if you're determined to hide problem areas there are a number of styles and things you can use.
